Getting "Error 1603: A fatal error occurred during installation." when trying to install SEP.

I ran cleanwipe on the machine to remove a corrupt version of SEP previous to this. Now I'm getting this error. I know it's pretty broad but any ideas?

Can you go to start | run and then type %temp%?

A folder containing temporary files will open and inside you fill find out log file sep_inst.log

Please open it, find out all references to "return value 3" and then paste them together with 3 lines following this result here. We will see what's causing the problem.

    Hi,

Give one more attempt with Cleanwipe & check.

The first and last posts may be most pertinent.

Also note the Microsoft Utility referred to in the post, no longer exists as it had tendencies to do more harm than good.

After running Clean wipe did you restart the machine?

I see this error in the log OpenService() FAILED with error 1060

Check this KB for a possible solution.

SEP client installation is rolling back with MSI error 1060

    Delete

Open Device Manager --View-Show HIdden Files--Non Plug and Play Drivers - SPBBCdrv

    Delete

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC

Restart your machine then try installing SEP again.
