How To exclude Mount Points from Scanning

  • 1.  How To exclude Mount Points from Scanning

    Hi Everyone,

    I have been battling this issue for a week now and have hit a dead-end. I have also contacted Symantec via our platinum support agreement and have gotten no where.

    So....I have 4 servers running windows server 2003 with SAV CE 10.1.800 and they have been placed in a server group in my Symantec console and have an exclusion set for auto-protect which is to exclude all files and folders in the d:\opentext directory. Within the directory d:\opentext there are 2 folders called "indexes" and "logs". these 2 folders are actually mount points to LUNS on a filer.

    the problem is that auto-protect continues to scan these 2 directories even though they have be set as an exclusion. All other folders/files in d:\opentext are being excluded with no issues.

    also when I watch the auto-protect status on these servers it shows scanning these folders as \Device\HarddiskVolume4 and \Device\HarddiskVolume6. When I searched Google for excluding mount points from antivirus the first thing that comes up is a mcafee support doc showing me exactly how to do what I need.....no such luck with Symantec's online knowledgebase or platinum support tech.

    I have even tried adding some similar paths to the exclusion list as referenced in the mcafee document but no luck:
    \\?\Volume{4a6f7e1d-0d1e-4d48-966e-76cbf85da934}
    /vol/servername/servername_01/LUN01
    D:\Opentext\Logs
    D:\Opentext\Indexes
    /vol/servername/servername_02/LUN02
    \\?\Volume{ea0a3173-9da6-43ac-8040-3f2892be9208}
    *\Volume{ea0a3173-9da6-43ac-8040-3f2892be9208}
    *\Volume{4a6f7e1d-0d1e-4d48-966e-76cbf85da934}
    *\Device\HarddiskVolume4
    *\Device\HarddiskVolume6

    Can anyone tell me if this is supported in SAV CE 10.1.800 or even EP 11.

    Thanks!!
