Got this for the 2nd time ever.

Is there any way to correct this

The Base Filtering Engine (BFE) service is not running. Please ensure it is enabled before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection.

I had to run NPE to clear out something called "internet security pro"

Did the installation and get The Base Filtering Engine (BFE) service is not running. Please ensure it is enabled before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Yeah, but it won't start. I think whatever that malware was killed it.

    HI,

It is mandatory to start BFE service on the client machine.

Base Filtering Engine Service (BFE) is a service that controls the operation of the Windows Filtering Platform. Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) is a network traffic processing platform that allows software to “hook” into Windows networking stack and perform such functions as firewall, traffic shaping, filtering, accounting, etc.

This service is essential for operation of many firewall products: Windows built-in firewall, Norton Internet Security.

You can got to services.msc and find the BFE service and start it.

    Regards

    Ajin

I tired, didn't work. It's definitely not an easy service to work with.

Here is a Norton 360 guy having problems with BFE as well:

See the answer of prasanna_a, perhaps it helps.

    Hi,

    Check this

Unable to install SEP on Windows 7 machine as the Base Filtering Engine Service is not started

Access the Services.msc console and re-enable the BFE service, then reattempt installation.

If you cannot re-enable the BFE service this way, please refer to the Microsoft community document on correcting BFE registration and permissions, included below.
