I upgraded from 7.1 SP2 to 7.5 on Friday (4/4/14). I checked the Log Viewer this morning only to discover the same issue: Images are gone. I have backups of everything, so no big deal, but still an issue. For reference here's what C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\Task Handler looked like before the upgrade:
Here's an after shot:
So you can see there's a significant difference.
To answer your questions:
1. Sorry, not sure what situation, as I'm not sure the tech sticky you're referring to.
2. Only an SMP, no site servers.
3. We have just one instance doing everything.
4. If you mean the 4 _Symantec_netboot_* services, all automatic
5. I finished the upgrade to 7.5, rebooted, and immediately installed the available hotfixes.
6. Upgrade worked clean. There were a few of the pre-req warnings, but I can't remember what they were. Nothing severe enough to prevent installation.
7. A few possible thoughts:
- Avast Antivirus was running when I started the upgrade, though I did turn it off midway through. Nothing was flagged as blocked/malicous though.
- Step 8 of 132? took an extremely long time (1-2 hours). So much so that I started perusing the forums for complaints.
- In Event Viewer during the above timeframe there are just under 10,000 entries for EventID 10010: Application 'C:\Program Files\Altiris\Symantec Installation Manager\SymantecInstallationManager.exe' (pid 3232) cannot be restarted - Application SID does not match Conductor SID..
- Event Viewer shows 36 consecutive Warnings for System.ServiceModel.Install 3.0.0.0 during the installation timeframe. They appear to be an attempt to install some .Net stuff that already existed. This may have been during the hotfix installation though.
- Event viewer shows shows event 5189 (source: WAS) about 5 hours into the upgrade: The Windows Process Activation Service failed to generate an application pool config file for application pool 'Symantec Agent AppPool'. The error type is '7'. To resolve this issue, please ensure that the applicationhost.config file is correct and recommit the last configuration changes made. The data field contains the error number.
prior to above, at the beginning of the upgrade were two other WAS errors:
- The Windows Process Activation Service received a change notification, but was unable to process it correctly. The data field contains the error number.
- The Windows Process Activation Service failed to generate an application pool config file for application pool '*'. The error type is '0'. To resolve this issue, please ensure that the applicationhost.config file is correct and recommit the last configuration changes made. The data field contains the error number.
- I did not run the "Optional" task in the ITMS 7.5 guide to Run "NS.packagerefresh"
So given the two above screenshots, besides restoring the image folder, should anything else be restored or should it automatically be rebuilt? I'm just digging into this now, so I'm sure things are missing (PE images probably?) What's the best advice moving forward?
