    Hello,

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 Maintenance Release 1 (MR1) and higher includes support for Windows 2008.

SAVCE 10.2 MR 4 introduced client-only support for Microsoft Windows 2008 Server SP2 and Windows Vista SP2. The Symantec AntiVirus Server, Symantec System Center and deployment tools have been modified to support the management of clients that run on Windows Server 2008 or Vista, but the management components cannot be installed on these operating systems.

SAVCE 10.2 Client support for Windows Server Core 2008 was added as of SAVCE 10.2 MR2.

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.2 MR3 and later are supported on Windows Server 2008 R2. All previous versions of Symantec AntiVirus will not run on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 MR 4 and above (client and SEPM manager) are supported on Windows 2008 Server. On Windows Vista, only the SEP client is supported.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 RU5* and above (client and SEPM manager) are supported on Windows 2008 Server. On Windows 7, only the SEP client is supported.

*Recommend you to install Symantec Endpoint Protection RU6 MP2 and above.

Starting with the release of 11.0.5002.333 (RU5), SEPM supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (all editions except for Itanium), and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (all editions except for Itanium).

I wouldn't install SP1 if you keep up on patches. There really nothing new in it not to mention it can come with some problems:

Thank you for you replay. I've read all this articles and it's just confusing that these SPs are nowhere explicitly listed. whereas SP's for XP / Vista are explicitliy listed (for example XP SP3). But not 2008 R2 SP1 or Win 7 SP1.

So you are sure it's tested by Symantec?

    Thank you

    Hi A Zürcher,

I know of no reason why SEP will have any difficulties with the SP1.  That being said, a full range of SEP testing has not yet been carried out with that latest SP.  The forthcoming SEP 11 RU7 (expected out this summer) will be certified on that specific SP.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Hello,

I just received a Confirmation on the same as well from Symantec Backline.

It seems like we are not yet certified for that Windows 7/windows 2008 SP1, though I know of no reason why our products will not work with it.

I thought I would post my findings thus far for those who might run into the same issues im having. I manage 12 independent sites each with sep 11 ru6 and now all 2008 r2 sp1 servers. Any of the 2008 r2 servers that started off as 2008 r2 servers worked fine for me after the sp1 upgrade, however any that began their life as the original 2008 server and did an inplace upgrade to 2008 r2 in the past have caused sep manager to fall over (I unfortunately have 3 of these). I have yet to find the exact cause or at least a hint from the log files but thought I would warn anyone who may have the same scenario before proceeding with the sp1 upgrade on those kind of servers. Sp1 itself I would agree should not have caused this but the three affected servers were working fine prior to the sp1 upgrade and have been in place for between 1 - 2 years without skipping a beat. Does anybody know when ru 7 is set to be released ?

Geez ... Seems like I have to be a clarirvoyant to know when I should or should not use a computer for fear of not being compatable with Windows.  And know.... The software I bought for my windows computers "Endpoint" is not compatable with my version of windows. And to think that I thought that SEP was going to protect my Windows computers. Now I am not compatable, I have to do what....? UNINSTALL IT????

What is the problem with SEP 11.6 MP3 and SP1  tell us now that we have been using SP1 for months I am wondering if my users are going to be VERY UPSET or just kill me.

    What is up with that.

    Thanks alot Symantec

If we have SEP client issues with SP1 installed, will we receive support from Symantec?  (We have a support contract)

What is the status of MR7, when is it due to be released?

Althought the SEP client is not certified for W2K8 R2 SP1 by Symantec, you're telling me the client does still provide antivirus protection (my clients are servers) and the SEP client should be functioning properly?

    Thank you!
