Configuring push mode or pull mode to update client policies and content

You can specify whether the management server pushes the policy down to the clients or that the clients pull the policy from the management server. The default setting is Push mode. If you select Pull mode, then by default, clients connect to the management server every 5 minutes, but you can change this default heartbeat interval.

To configure push mode or pull mode for a group

    1. In the console, click Clients.

    2. Under Clients, select the group for which you want to specify whether to push or pull policies.

    3. Click the Policies tab.

    4. Uncheck Inherit policies and setting from the parent group "group name".

    5. Under Location-independent Policies and Settings pane, under Settings, click Communications Settings.

    6. In the Communications Settings for group name dialog box, under Download, verify that Download policies and content from the management server is checked.

    7. Do one of the following tasks:

      • Click Push mode.

      • Click Pull mode and under Heartbeat Interval, set the number of minutes or hours.

    8. Click OK.

To specify Push mode or Pull mode for a location

    1. In the console, click Clients.

    2. Under Clients, select the group for which you want to specify whether to push or pull policies.

    3. Click the Policies tab.

    4. Uncheck Inherit policies and setting from the parent group "group name".

    5. Under Location-specific Policies and Settings, under Location-specific Policies for the location you want to modify, expandLocation-specific Settings.

    6. Under Location-specific Settings, to the right of Communications Settings, click Tasks and uncheck Use Group Communications Settings.

    7. To the right of Communications Settings, click Local - Push or (Local - Pull).

    8. Do one of the following tasks:

      • Click Push mode.

      • Click Pull mode and under Heartbeat Interval, set the number of minutes or hours.

    9. Click OK.

    ALSO Increase the Heartbeat Interval

    Hello,

Is the SEPM installed on Windows XP machine??

This is caused by exhaustion of sessions. Windows XP can only support 10 concurrent sessions.

Solution: You can clear the active sessions to by using the iisreset command.

    Also check this Article:

Best practices guide for installing the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) on a Windows XP operating system.

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH91694

You are installing the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) on a Windows XP machine. Windows XP has a 10 concurrent connection limitation that has been built in by Microsoft. This guide contains the configuration changes that are necessary to work around this limitation. This is supported for up to 100 clients managed from a single XP SEPM.

    Hope that helps!!

Verify communication to the embedded (Sybase) database.

    1. Verify that the "Symantec Embedded Database" service is running and that the "dbsrv9.exe" process is listening on TCP port 2638.
    2. Test the ODBC connection.
      1. Click Start> Control Panel
      2. Open Administrator Tools
      3. Double-click Data Sources (ODBC)
      4. Select the System DSN tab
      5. Double-click the SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN and go through the wizard to ensure the following settings:
        • Name: SymantecEndpointSecurityDSN
        • Description: <anything></anything>
        • Server: Servername\InstanceName (Can be blank as it is localized, otherwise specify default "sem5")
        • Login ID: dba
        • Password: <SEPM Login Password>
      6. Leave the default settings for the remaining items and click Finish
      7. Click Test Data Source, and verify that it states "Success"
      8. Click OK

    Check the free disk space

    Please update the status,

    Regards,

    Guru
