  • 1.  Does a SEP 12.1 client reports to a SEPM v11?

    Posted Dec 07, 2011 04:02 AM

    Hi @all,

one short question, a colleague of mine recently said, that a 12.1 SEP client is able to be managed in a SEPM v11 environmet.

Is that correct? Is the client reporting properly, or is it just manageable?

    Thanks for a short confirmation!

    BR,

    Gil

    Hello,

Please Understand, the SEP 11 and SEP 12.1 are 2 different products with different Architecture.

Basically, when it comes to communication, it would communicate and get managed.

However, when it comes to definition content updates, that would not happen.

As SEPM 11.x would only download the content meant for SEP 11 and not for SEP 12.1.

In reference to policies, SEP 12.1 policies are lot different than SEP 11.

So, I would say it is not adviseable to have the SEP 12.1 Clients managed by SEPM 11.x

    Hope that answers!!

    Hi,

It's strongly recommended/suggested not to manage SEP 12.1 clients through SEPM 11.x

We have said previously it may work in few cases but Symantec won't support if any issue occurred in such scenario.

However SEPM 12.1 can manage SEP 11.x clients.

I hope it will help you !!!

    Hello Gil,

Ideally as per SEP 12.1 design it should not talk with 11.x SEPM. If by chance its listed and communicating still the definitions won't be provided from 11.x to 12.1.

Water flows from top to bottom not the other way....

    Please update the status!

    Cheers !!

    Hey @all!

Thanks for your answers, much appreciated! :-)

Yes, I know that it should not be the case. Water flows from top to bottom, not the other way round. Good point! *laughing* ;-)

I set up a 12.1 SEPM with two LUA 2.3 and the clients are running mostly SEP 11 (on the go to 12.1) and for sure it´s not something I would force, definitely not, but in some cases such things are necessary to think of...sadly enough.

An outsourcing project on site is the cause for this and they say, naaa, not a problem to manage your 12.1 clients with our 11 Manager and because of that, I´m in search of reasons why this is not adviseable, you know ;-)

    ... ok, to be continued

    Gil
