    Posted May 26, 2010 07:30 PM
Hi, I am facing issues with one of my servers   Windows 2003 R2

I am installing 11.0.5002.333   and  11.0.4014.26   both versions failed and roll back my installation.

I ran cleanwipe several times and tried reinstalling several times with no luck

This is a sumary of my SEP_INST.log file with  roughly 10 lines above and below "Return Value 3" line.  Hope someone can help me out to get this solved !!!! thanks

    Try the steps in sequence:

    1. Uninstall LU if it is there in addremove Programs

    2. Delete the following folders (if they exist):

    C:\Program Files\Symantec

    C:\Program Files\Symantec Antivirus

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate

    3. Check the DCOM settings:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2002103013521548

    4. Shut down the Windows Installer service and then re-register

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type msiexec /unreg, and then click OK

When this process is complete, click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK

    5. Reboot the machine

    Then INSATALL SEP

    (copied over from https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/es/forums/ayudaccstopserviceanddepatanycost366-unable-openservice-ccsetmgr-error1060 )

    Hola A10N50,

This error can sometimes be seen when there is a threat (virus/worm.spyware) on the computer.  Running the SERT LiveCD  will clear that away even if there is no SEP installed on the computer.  See How To Use the Symantec Endpoint Recovery Tool with the Latest Virus Definitions (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....)

I have also seen that error resolved when the old install of SAV or SEP is 100% removed (CleanWipe), DCOM permissions are corrected, the computer re-booted, and msiexec re-registered (Start > Run > msiexec /regserver).  After that the install went fine.

Please keep the forum up-to-date with your progress!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mick

Hi....THanks Prachand...I did all steps suggested and I fixed a part of my issue checking DCOM settings ..However I can't get rid of an error with unrar.dll

Seems this is not allowing Live Update to install so my installation still rolls back due to this Unrar.dll issue. I tried registering the unrar.dll however I am getting an error : the unrar.dll was loaded, but the DLL RegisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered.

Any help would be appreciated....THANKS IN ADVANCE>

This is my new log after follow all steps....Thanks

Try to log on the machine as Local admin and then try to install SEP.

Hi Guys.....I finally have my issue resolved...>THanks all people who kindly answer my messages..

All your suggestions were considered and tried and finally with Prachand, Mick2009 and Vikram I could get it solved.

    Steps :

    1. Uninstall LU if it is there in addremove Programs

    2. Delete the following folders (if they exist):

    C:\Program Files\Symantec

    C:\Program Files\Symantec Antivirus

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate

    3. Check the DCOM settings:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2002103013521548

    4. Shut down the Windows Installer service and then re-register

Click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type msiexec /unreg, and then click OK

When this process is complete, click Start, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK

    5. Reboot the machine

Then   Running the SERT LiveCD  will clear that away even if there is no SEP installed on the computer.  See How To Use the Symantec Endpoint Recovery Tool with the Latest Virus Definitions (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....)

I also installed and ran Malwarebytes Antimalware and found several infections for both cases the SERT and the malwarebytes so virus infection could be one of the reasons of my issue.
After that I ran Cleanwipe to make sure I will run a fresh installation and logged as LOCAL Administrator on the machine...then ran SEP11 setup and went fine....so Thanks to you guys.....after that all have been Fun for my weekend......!!!!!

Again...thanks for your help...you all guys rock this forum and hope this guide can help someonelse to save couple of days  if stumbling with this issue!!!!!!!!
