Has anyone else attempted to use the Altiris 7.1 console with IE9?  Most of the menus do not work.  I was wondering if there was an upcoming fix for this or if I just have something configured wrong.  I also tried virtualizing IE8 but kept getting a 1040 error using the layer definition tool.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IE9 is not supported.  I can't get to the official document at the moment.  But suffice to say IE9 was released two weeks after 7.1 was released.  I would plan on reverting to IE8.

No.. SP1 for 2008 R2 was released 16 days before the release of 7.1, and IE9 was released after 7.1.  I would expect to see support for both in 7.1 SP1 due this summer.

This is pretty common with any vendor, any product line.  Especially given that the release of these things was either after the 7.1 release or mere days before.  You can't test it on a Service Pack you don't have, and by 16 days prior to release, you're pretty well locked into the development cycle.

Like I said, I'm guessing we'll see support for both in 7.1 in SP1 due this summer.

I can understand being locked into the development lifecycle, and this is not the case only with Symantec, but with a lot of major vendors, but you would think with how readily available IE9 RC and Betas were that support could have been built into 7.1, or at least have a Service Pack on the way with support.

Another reason I'm not too wild about browser applications. One security patch and you can no longer use your application. Too many developers write to the bugs in the browser.

We have people still on IE6 because of browser applications that don't work with the newer browsers. We have others that can't load the ActiveX patches because the browser application is using one of the blocked ActiveX controls - with no plans to upgrade any time soon.

And now we can't apply a service pack, or upgrade to a more secure browser for the same reasons. The Win32 console is still the best bet. If they would just upgrade it with the features of collections/filters, and add reporting, that would make it the best thing around.

So, IE9 has been out for 3 months. Any word on a patch for NS 7.1?

    Still SP2 by end-of-year.

Are we going to need to wait for a service pack for every browser release? I hope they are at least working on support for IE10 now and will have an update ready sooner than 6+ months after its release.

Firefox is 5.0 in its current version. Did you give it a shot?

No. Not really. As long as it is XHTML compliant setup it should be portable across the browsers and platforms. Connect is one such example. The problems creep in only when advantage of a particular browser is overly used. Hope Altiris team address this issue asap.
