  • 1.  Update Live Update Server

    Posted Dec 23, 2011 12:51 PM

We are currently on Live Update Server version 2.2.2.9  and I want to know if I can upgrade to the latest version of Live Update in place by running the LUAESD.exe on the same server that hosts the Live Update Server or if I need to do a fresh install of the latest version on a different server.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I would request you to upgrade the LUA 2.2.2.9 to the Latest version of LUA 2.3.1

Yes, the best way is to Uninstall the previous LUA and Install the Latest LUA 2.3.1

    Check this:

I would recommend you to create a case with Symantec Technical Support to grab the Latest copy of LUA 2.3.1

Going forward what is the best way to update the LiveUpdate Server incrementally? Unistall and reinstall does not seem like a viable solution for upgrades.

    Hello mhanson,

You can upgrade directly from LUA 2.2.2.9 to the newest build. The newest build is currently LUA 2.3.1.

Incremental upgrades are supported and normally work fine.

If you need a link to the LUA 2.3.1 installation files, feel free to private message me!

    Regards,

    James

    Hi Mike,

There's no need to uninstall LUA 2.2.  The new 2.3.1 can install right over the top of it.

"Thumbs up" for the recommendations, above to upgrade (and for providing links to those online reference resources),  Here is one more, which is a good article to subscribe to:

What is the latest version of Symantec LiveUpdate Administrator 2.x (LUA 2.x)?

Subscribers are automatically notified whenever that article is updated / whenever a new release of LUA is available.

    Hope this helps!

Even though its not required to un0install and all...

But unless you have too many products, distributions, downadloads and settings configured it should be a problem to re-install.

Mostly people use LUA a secondary liveupdate server so only download and distribution is configured and setting tht up should not take more than 5-10 mins..my personal opinion is fresh install is always better than upgrade but again that what I think.
