SEP stops when scan is run

Just installed SEP 12.0.1-AllWin_EN on a Windows 7 machine as unmanaged client. It installed, and LU ran to get current definitions. It shows virus and spyware protection on, and proactive protection on. However, when either active scan or full scan are run, immediately get the message Symantec Antivirus has stopped working. Tried uninstalling, and re-install, but same problem persists. Any ideas ?

uninstall SEP try installing it on another drive! try it by running it from another windows account runas.....

do drastic changes in swap file set it to 2 times of RAM!

please post the screenshot of error message so that we can troubleshoot more!

also look for application log for more details!

if you have UAC turned on, switch that OFF
unistall the SEP  client
disable UAC
reboot the box
right click on the setup.exe , select runas administrator
check the results.

Set page file to twice ram, uninstalled, reinstalled. Scan still stop SEP immediately.

Turned off UAC, uninstalled SEP, rebooted, reinstalled, scan still stops SEP immediately.

Ran SEP support tool, no problems found.

was sep installed as part of an image?

 I'm not sure what you mean by 'part of an image'. It was installed from a download file on Symantec's web-site, and was installed as an unmanaged client.

put in your serial number
if you can find SEP 11 MU5, 11.0.5000
download and install it.

when you installed it for first time
do u right click on the setup.exe and select the option Run AS Administrator?

 Tried to find SEP 11 MU5, but the only products on that URL are 12.0 in different languages.

When installing SEP, I did run setup.exe as administrator, exactly as you describe.

Go to the properties of each symantec services and provide administrator user's credentials,restart the pc and try to scan...
