    Hello,

I am attempting to install SEP 12.1.2015 on a Windows 7 SP1 system and as the install is almost complete I get a rollback and then the installation does not complete.

I have tried different users (including creating a new one).

Attached is the installation log. What can I do to get past this?

    Thank you for your time.

    Regards,

    Tmason

Have you tried to prepare the machine for installation with cleanwipe tool?:

Thank you for your prompt response.

Ran the CleanWipe tool (see the image attachement) yet I still get a rollback (also attached is the log of the installation after the Cleanwipe).

    What else can I try?

    Thank you.

Thank you for this assistance. I have completely disabled the Windows Defender service but the issue persists.

Attached are all logs I could find as mentioned in the second article and as you requested.

Let me know what else I can do :)

    From the log it says

[FinalizeContent] UseLatestPackage( "VirusDefs", "NAVCORP_70" ) failed with HRESULT 0x80004005.

its failing while installign latest definition ,are you trying to install SEP with latest definition?

Do you have CD1 of SEP downloaded from fileconnect, then I would suggest you installing SEP as unmanged

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO80814

if it works then we can drop the sylink file to make it manged post installation...

    Hi,

I would also suggest to install it as a unmanaged client.

If install completed sucessfully can convert client from unmanaged to managed client.

    Hello to All,

Thanks for your help thus far; unfortunately I am still having the same issue.

Here is what I have done from my last post:

    1. Downloaded and tried the latest Installation for SEP64 (See Setup.ini_.txt for the version)
    2. Had quite a few Windows updates, including updates to Internet Explorer. Updated and installed.
    3. Reran the setup again after updates.
    4. Tried the unmanaged installation.

All of this and I still have the same issue as I had in the original post.

    See the attached logs.

What else can I do to fix this?

Thank you again for your time.

    Regards,

    TMason

    Hi,

G drive is a external drive? In case trying to install from external drive I would suggest to copy setup file on the local machine and run the setup.

    Hello,

Thank you for the suggestion. I moved the installation folder to "C:\Symantec64" and tried the installation.

But the same error as mentioned in the original post still persists.

    Attached are the updated logs.

    Anything else I can try?

Thank you (and everyone else) for your time.

    Hi,

    1)  make sure UAC is disabled.

    2) Fix the %AppData% variable for the SYSTEM account if it's not set correctly.

    • Open 'regedit' from a run prompt.
    • Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders.
    • Make sure that the AppData string is set to:

      %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming for Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows Server 2008.

Note: Any other values here that do not have %USERPROFILE% may be incorrect as well and could cause issues.

    3) Correct incorrect permissions for LuComServer:http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH141644

    • Start - Run - Dcomcnfg: Component Services, Computers, My Computer, DCOM Config, LuComServer,
    • Select Properties, Identity tab
    • Select the "This user" option
    • Choose a Local Administrator account. Use the Browse button if necessary; the account name must be prefixed by machine name to be recognized.
    • (Note: If you have not installed LiveUpdate before the installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection, LuComServer will not exist in DCom Config.)

    Hello,

Thank you for your prompt replies and assistance.

That's the one I have been installing after you mentioned the download.

I will search for the LiveUpdate folder now.

    Hello,

I have followed the directions given to no avail.

    1. I searched for any "LiveUpdate" folders but could not find any.
    2. I disabled UAC. See the attached image "UACSettings.png" for confirmation.
    3. I verified the registry settings as given. See the attached image
       "AppDataRegedit.png" as confirmation.
    4. I searched for "LuComServer" in the requested location to no avail. See the attached image "NoLuComServer.png" for confirmation.
    5. You can review the version of the SEP client I am trying to install in "unmanaged" mode by the "Setup.ini_.txt" file I attached.

I then ran the installation again with the same issue. Attached also are the updated logs.

I am beginning to pull my hair out myself; not sure what is happening here.

    Any ideas?

Thank you for all of your help.

    Regards,

    TMason

    Hi,

I hope installing SEP using full admin rights. Could you attach SEP_Inst.log file, it will be available under %temp% directory.

You had installed any other antivirus software on this before?

How much free space is available on C drive?

By any chance do you have legacy SEP 11.x version setup.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

I am answering your questions in BOLD:

I hope installing SEP using full admin rights.

Yes, that is correct, I am installing using full administrative rights to the system in question.

Could you attach SEP_Inst.log file, it will be available under %temp% directory.

The file has been attached as "SEP_Inst.log_.txt".

You have installed any other antivirus software on this before?

The system in question used to have Norton Internet Security 2010. I have since removed the software and ran the "Cleanwipe" utility per my comment a few days ago.

How much free space is available on C drive?

The system has approximately 166GB of free space. You may review the "HardDiskSpace.png" image for confirmation.

By any chance do you have legacy SEP 11.x version setup.

I don't understand the question, are you asking me if I have an old version available to install or if I am using an old version?

I am currently trying to install version "12.1.4013.4013".

Let me know what else I can provide.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi,

You are using the latest version i.e. 12.1.4013.4013 (RU4), do you have an old version available to install. SEP 11.x is the older version.

Also try the following steps if applicable:

Open the Registry Editor and go to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

On the right hand side right-click and modify the value of "CommonFilesDir" to C:\Program Files\Common Files.

If I install the older version will I be able to upgrade to the newer version?

Or are you saying just use the older version and that's it?

I will check the registry entry out.

I have attached an image of the registry and what the entry in question looks like. I haven't made any changes to the setting; it was set to what you sent already.

Yes, later on you can upgrade to the newer version

OK, so the older Symantec Endpoint Protection (11.0.6) installed.

    Thank you!

Should I run LiveUpdate for the older version first, then attempt an upgrade?

Or try and upgrade right away?

    Great news.

Run liveUpdate first & then atempt an upgrade.

It's not mandatory but I would prefer this approach.
