SEP 11 Group Update Provider (GUP) - H/W and S/W System Requirements We are working on a SEP 11 upgrade for Large Enterprise and the proposed design will include a GUP for each plant location (avg 100 to 225 users each). We have been searching for GUP System Requirements (Processor, Windows OS supported, Service Pack levels required, RAM, HDD capacity, etc.) on the Symantec website and haven't been able to locate any information till date. Can somebody kindly direct us to above information if it's available on the website or advice us of the GUP System Requirements. Thanks and Regards Dave Mignosa

GUP is just a normal client with additional function. So there is no special system requirement.
Since you are using it for 100 to 225 clients so always use Server OS for GUP ( as XP has a limitation of 10 concurrent connection ).

Rest it will be just like a simple client which might use at the max 2-3 gig of extra space on the HDD.

Mr 11.05 say we can use up to 5000 clients.  So does this mean we will have to use another os or more than one gup for every 10 connections?
Can't I space out the updates?

    Thanks

Thats if one GUP is providing updates from more than 5000 clients.
Its good to use more gups if you have large number of clients inside each groups.

I still would like to use windows xp for the gups to defray costs.  Is this ok in a 100 plus user unvironment?

    Thanks

For 100 clients , XP can handle without any problem
there is lot of option for GUP in MU5, you can limit space and bypass it , that would take care of it.

100 clients is not problem it will update with some minor delay. Its concurrent 10 but not just 10.
However if it goes to 300+ the delays will increase a lot.

I would suggest you never bypass the GUPs. This caused NUMEROUS issues with our WAN.
