Can anyone confirm for me how the article http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/1d395b5bec0673ae8025752200793c17?OpenDocument ("How to configure GUP bandwidth throttling....") should be applied?

Should it be applied on the SEPM, or the GUP itself, or the GUP Client?  or all 3?  Perhaps that detail should have been put in the article itself...

Also what definition delta's get cached by the GUP?  Does the GUP cache all SEP Defs ie both Virus Defs and IPS defs even if the GUP (a W2003 server in this case) only has AntiVirus and Antispyware Protection configurred on it?  or does it cache the initial client defs requested?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

That article is for GuP client
you should make those changes on the client which is designated as GuP.

It would cache all the defs from SEPM

if you have just AV and AS

do not download anything else. under liveupdate tab

this would help in disk and unnessary traffic

    > The document should be applied on the client which is designated as GUP.
    > The GUP will download definitions on-demand for itself and any clients configured to update through it. The GUP will cache all downloaded content according to the settings in its LiveUpdate policy. Clients that have been configured to use a GUP will download definitions directly from the GUP instead of SEPM. By this method, bandwidth is conserved. There must be sufficient bandwidth between the GUP and the SEPM to allow the GUP to download the full and delta definition packages being requested by SEP clients. The larger the spread of definition revisions used by the clients, the larger the bandwidth utilization between the SEPM and the GUP.
    > You do not need to worry about disk space usage by the GUP machine.
    > By default the GUP will automatically purge content from its cache under two conditions - 1) if the content size grows more than the maximum disk cache size defined, 2) if the content is older and not in use.

Hope this will answer your queries.

    Thanks and regards,

The throttling needs to be done only on the  GUP .

The GUP gets all the defnition fron the SEPM and inturn pass them to the clients , irrespective of the operating system on which it is installed and the components installed on it.
