    Hi Friends,

Presently we are using SEPM 11.0.5XXX and Win 2003 r2 with SQL (Sql Server 2008 ) data base.Total Number of Clients : 15000+

Now we want to upgrade the SEPM to 12.1 RU1 and OS to Win2008 R2. Please tell me the best way to upgrade the SEPM and OS:

    My Plan:

    1. Take the database backup of 11.0.5xxx
    2. Upgrade the OS to Windows 2008 R2
    3. Restore the database with 11.0.5
    4. Upgrade the SEPM to 12.1 RU1

Please let me know any best way.......

    Regards

    Hello,

I understand your plan and see no issue with the same.

Here are the Disaster Recovery Steps: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102333

You can also check this Thread: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/migration-server-2003-sbs-2011

However, Migrating from Symantec Endpoint Protection v.11.x clients to Install Symantec Endpoint Protection v.12.1. could migrate flawlessly without any issues.

Here are few steps to look at for Migration:

    1) Upgrading and migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163602

    2) Steps to prepare computers to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 client

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH163112

Also, check the Articles for the Migration on :

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/quick-access-symantec-knowledgebase-articles-symantec-endpoint-protection-121

    WhitePaper for Migration: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/migration-whitepaper-symantec-endpoint-protection-version-121

    Hope that helps!!

    Hello Santhosh,

When do you get the error of "unable to connect to the database" Is it while running the management server config wizard or during the restore of the database?

Are you using the Correct SQL IP address / host name, SQL user name and password and the correct path to the SQL server client folder??

    Double check the same.
