  • 1.  Upgrading from SEP 11 to Protection Suite Small Business Edition

    Posted Aug 17, 2010 10:00 AM
    Hi,
I have just received my upgrade details to go from SEP Multitier Small Business Edition to go to Protection Suite SBE.

My question is, in terms of SEP 11 do I need to uninstall the product from the server(running SEPM) and then install the new version 12 ?
If I do this, and push version 12 out to clients will I have to uninstall the previous version 11 client prior to installing 12 or will the deployment handle the removal of 11 automatically ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Anthony

Migrating from SEP 11 to SEP 12 is not really an upgrade. These are two different products, only the SEP 11 clients can be migrated.

Migration detects and migrates installations of the following Symantec legacy virus protection software:

             1. SAV Corporate Edition 9.x and 10.x
             2. Symantec Client Security (SCS) 2.x and 3.x
             3. SEP 11 (client only)

SEP 11.0 is different from the SEP 12.0.

SEP 11.0 is a standard license and doesn't require  an activation, wherein SEP 12.0, requires a license file for activation, specially if you'll install it in a managed client/s.

For further assistance, you may contact Enterprise Licensing Team (1-800-721-3934 opt2).

    Kind regards.

Sine SEP 11.0 is different from SEP SBE 12.0, you need to uninstall SEP 11.0 if you want to run or install SEP SBE 12.0.
-You will be needing the license file to activate the 12.0 version.

Please note that Symantec Endpoint Protecion 11.0 does not require an activation ( license file ) for managed and unmanaged installation.

While Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.0 requires a license file for activation for managed installation, however, it does not require activation if you do unmanaged installation.
