  • 1.  Symantec Endpoint Manager 12.1 - How can I shrink/compact the SQL Anywhere Embeded Database?

    Posted May 18, 2012 12:15 AM

    Hi Folks:

I hope this is the right forum to ask in:

I recently had to do a restore of the embeded SQL Anwhere database for Symantec Endpoint Manager 12.1.1100

The database was huge.  I am not concerned about keeping data older than a month old.  Is there a way to get rid of the old data or compact the database?

I have about 200 users that are connected with the database with clients.

    Thanks,

    Matthew

sorry are you talking about the SQL or embedded ( sybase database)?

Shrink the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) 12.1 embedded database

The embedded database for the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) grows overly large. Use the Dbunload.exe tool to shrink it.

Database shrinking was rather usefull for some old SEPM 11.0 releases. If you want to reduce the space consumed by a SEPM 12.1 database, I would suggest you to:

     - Reduce the number of definitions you keep (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH92225)

     - Decrease log retention (Admin > Servers > Database under Local Site > Edit Database Properties > Log settings)

     - Increase Transaction log truncation frequency (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH166658)

     - Delete old client packages from the console (Admin > Install Pacakges)

NOTE: keep in mind there is a defect regarding Transaction log not shrinking on SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition. This is fixed in later release (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH187656).

Here is an interesting article about SEPM sizing:
