  • 1.  SAV 10.1.4 > SEP 11.0.5

    Hi guys,

    I ahve tested both:

    1. Uninstall SAV > Reboot > Install SEP
    2. Install SEP over the top of SAV

    and both work fine!

Is there any clear advantage of doing one above the other - tempted just to deply SEP, rather than worrying about uninstalling SAV first.

Is this a support upgrade process?  Any potential trolls hiding along the line?

    Thanks

Installing SEP over SAV 10.x is a recommended procedure however if you have less amount of clients you can remove sav then install SEP as sometimes the SAV does not get completely removed and hence corrupts SEP install.
So i would say deploy SEP on all the computers and if it fails on any of them then only remove SAV from that computer and install SEP.

    Hi,

Just a Few Points to Remind You.....

SAV 10 Corporate Edition could be divided into :

    1) Symantec Antivirus
    2) Symantec System Center
    3) Liveupdate 3.0 to 3.2

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x could be divided into:

    1) Symantec Endpoint Protection
    2) Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
    3) Liveupdate 3.3

When SEP is Installed over SAV , the SEP installtion firts uninstall SAV and then Install SEP , It is not an upgrade for SAV to SEP.( In the back ground an uninstall and then an install works)

    Thanks thats great.

    Just to clarify
, I am talking about the client, not server components:

    6000 clients:

    From SAV CORP 10.1.4 client

    to

    SEP 10.0.5 CLIENT

We have taken the approach to uninstall the SAV client and then install SEP client  to form the new directory structure (To not confuse the end users with "Symantec Antivirus" directory and uniformity)

These are the things that you have to script before you migrate, or uninstall.

    1) Disable tamper protection service and kill it's process.
    2) Disable liveupdate service and kill it's processes.
    3) Remove the uninstall password if any.
    4) Restart(or stop) the "Symantec Antivirus" service before migration( This will kill scheduled scan, if any in progress)

We are lkely to go with an push of the new client package, rather than uninstlal SAV - due to number of clients, time and cost...Users dont see their C: drive and wont know what the syamntec folder is anyway.

    Thanks for listing your steps.
