  • 1.  Ghosting an Encrypted Image

    Posted Apr 12, 2012 11:00 AM

As part of our company off boarding process we are required to backup all user laptop images and around here we use Ghost to do so. All the images though are encrypted as the users have Symantec PGP installed. The images are being backed up right now still encrypted but we are noticing that when attempting a restore, they are failing around 99%.

Does anyone know if these 2 can work hand and hand with backing up and restoring? In my opinion, encrypted images aren't meant to be backed up and restored, hence the reason of encryption. Any thoughts???

Use Norton Ghost 15.0.1 backup and restore.

Then backup the MBR, partition table, 100% success.

    But not a compressed backup.

Casper sounds like a good solution but this would have to be installed on each laptop correct? Or I guess as a work around, installed on the laptop you are going to backup and then taken off after the backup is complete?

I don't have personal experience with it.

Casper turned out to be the best option. They recently created Casper Securte Tech Edition in a Beta form that works very well.
