  • 1.  SEPM Upgrade from 11.0.4202.75 to 11.0.6 MP3

    Posted Apr 26, 2011 08:08 AM

I had asked the question on here, if it was possible to upgrade directly from 11.0.4202.75 to 11.0.6 MP3 and I was told NO, you must 1st upgrade to RU6A and then R6 MP3.    OK - not a problem, I am in the process of doing that now and things seems to be going well.

My question is can you upgrade the CLIENT part of SEP from 11.0.4202.75 to 11.0.6 MP3  or must you also upgrade to RU6A and then R6 MP3 ??

Depending on the answer it will change my approach at this upgrade, Thanks in advance for any helpful advice you can give to me

    Mike

You must first upgrade to RU6a then upgrade to RU6 MP3

Symantec recommend that you also do a step approuch to upgradeing clients also RU6a to MP3. But we have rolled out upgrades to over 12000 clients on our estate on various RU4/5's staright to MP3. We made sure the manager followed the step upgrade process. So far we have seen no issues and all clients upgrading succesfully and pulling updates.

I created this document explaining general migration paths. You can have a look on that:

the above was applicable to SEPM as it had some issues in RU6, so that had a patch for that,
RU6a, once SEPM is upgraded in that manner, you can upgrade the cilents directly

    Hello,

Yes, you have to.. As per the Documents provided below:

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 RU6

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH131653

The Document above (meant for upgrading to RU6a) states, as below:

    Migration paths
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6 (RU6) can migrate seamlessly over the following:

      • Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.780.1109/11.0.776.942 (RTM), 11.0.1000.1375 (MR1), 11.0.1006 (MR1 MP1), 11.0.2000.1567 (MR2), 11.0.2010.25 (MR2 MP1), 11.0.2020.56 (MR2 MP2), 11.0.3001.2224 (MR3), 11.0.4000.2295 (MR4), 11.0.4010.19 (MR4 MP1), 11.0.4014.26 (MR4 MP1a), 11.0.4202.75 (MR4 MP2), and 11.0.5002.333 (RU5)
      • Symantec AntiVirus client and server 9.x and later
      • Symantec Client Security client and server 2.x and later

    Whereas checking the Document below:

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6300 (RU6 MP3)

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH155655

The Document above (meant for the Latest Version of RU6 MP3) states, as below:

    Migration paths
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6300 (RU6 MP3) can migrate seamlessly over the following:

      • Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6000.550 (RU6), 11.0.6005.562 (RU6a), 11.0.6100.645 (RU6MP1), and 11.0.6200.754 (RU6 MP2).

Also, I would recommend you to read this Interesting and Important Document:

Auto-Upgrade using RU6/RU6a Manager pushes full client instead of delta

So, I would recommend you to :

    1) Upgrade the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from older version to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11.0.6005 (RU6a) and then;

    2) Upgrade the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11.0.6005 (RU6a) to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11.0.6300 (RU6 MP3)

    3) Autoupgrade clients from older version to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6005 (RU6a)

    4) Symantec Endpoint Protection Clients 11.0.6005 (RU6a) to Symantec Endpoint Protection Clients 11.0.6300 (RU6 MP3)

Note: Do not Auto-upgrade client machines, after Migrating Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from older version to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11.0.6005 (RU6a).

Again personally speaking, I haven't seen any issues coming up after you have upgraded the SEPM to the RU6 MP3 and then Autoupgrading clients from older version to Symantec Endpoint Protection Clients 11.0.6300 (RU6 MP3)

    Again, your Decision!!!!!

I would advice you go < RU6 to RU6a then to RU6MP3 on the clients as well.  just like the server.

I have done the upgrade on 2 of my sites and the second one some clients are having communication issues.  we have had to remove and reinstall the client for it to work.

Looks like its RU6A - then RU6 MP3 for both client and server

Thanks for all of your answers and suggestions
