  • 1.  WinPE CD unable to boot on Acer TravelMate6592

    Hi.

have been using WinPE to create hidden partitions on to pc's to store an altiris image in to.
all has been working fine until the model of the cd rom has changed to ( Lite-On Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P )
now when the Notebook boots it comes up with the error after it has started Win98...

the following file is missing or corrupted: \dos\himen.sys
there is an error in your config.sys file on line 1

Warning: the high memory are (HMA) is not available.
additional low memory (below 640K) will be used instead.

the following file is missing or corrupted: command.com
type the name of the command interpreter (eg . c:\windows\command.com)

in the past we have created a win98 boot disk on the target pc that would make up a files to be used. But this time it did not make a file for the cdrom.
have looked through the web but am unable to find a cd boot driver or a 98 dos driver.

i have found a win98 iso 98 bootable cd file that this iso used oakcdrom.sys

i have looked through all the folders that altiris uses to create the Winpe iso but am unable to determine what file or driver it uses to use for the cd/dvd rom.
Can I use this oakcdrom.sys file during boot to be able to read from the cd/dvd rom
Have flashed the BIOS on the notebook with the latest version an still the same thing.
    thanks

Does this problem relate to the firmware on the notebook? or is it how the hidden image is created on the bootbaule hidden winpe disk that creates the hidden winpe partition?

would it be worth to find and use a SATA CD rom drivers?

Have not found a solution for this, but have a work around.

well it has come down to loading the files on to a USB drive, and booting from a USB drive,
In Altiris Deployment server it will enable you to create a bootable dos disk that can be copied to a USB drive, you have to get the program to copy it as it copies a corrupt file that it uses to stop people from getting inside the files. Now it come down to if i can find a good copy program that can copy this corrupt file to other USB drives making it a bit faster to distribute.

i had a play with creating boot devices and got it to work.
On a WinPe bootable disk file under the configurations in boot disk creator right click on a winpe bootable disk > Create a automation partition installer > select a DOS bootable disk > Select either an embedded or Hidden partition > enter the size > Select bootable disk and tick show fixed drives > select the thumb drive and it will weerr away you can now use the USB drive to install hidden boot partitions.
