Dell Optiplex 990 Winpe & Linux Intel Driver required

  • 1.  Dell Optiplex 990 Winpe & Linux Intel Driver required

I am using DS6.9sp4. I have just taken possession of a Dell Optiplex 990 & Latitude 6510 both require the intel e1000 driver.

I have downloaded the latest drivers for windows x86 from Intel and have downloaded the e1000e.ko dated 11/6/2010 and added both to the pxe boot images. I can see each device listed in my hardware device drivers with the correct driver ID "1502"

    I get the following errors:

Restarting DHCP Client Service once the boot image has loaded. (WINPE)

mount error 101 - network is unreachable (LINUX)

I have also tried adding the newest intel dos driver to my old DS 6.8 and get the error "memory allocation error", I have modified the config.sys file without luck

Any help very much appreciated - I have no issues with previous dell models up to optiplex 780 & e6510.

    Thanks in advance Cat

We just got a Dell Opti 990 and are having the exact same issues with DS6.9 SP4.  We use the ndis drivers in our WinPE boot config.  Machine goes thru the initial PXE boot process, but hangs at the first DOS prompt window after loading WinPE and constantly errors at "restarting DHCP . . ."  It never loads the AClient and never shows up in the console obviously.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to Saeed at Symantec support I have found the following driver works.

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18713&ProdId=3299&lang=eng

The only driver that worked for me is listed below.

    PRO1000\Win32\NDIS62\e1c5132.inf

I am still in the process of looking a compatible linux and will post here when found

Not sure if this will help, but here's a link to all of the Dell CAB driver files.  There are updated CABs for both PE 2 and PE 3.

I've got 32-bit working fine and have installed the 64-bit drivers, but get the standard restarting DHCP error.

I'm using auto-detect all drivers for the 64-bit one.. I wonder if that could cause an issue.

FYI - dell also provides this:

Had to use the one in the NDIS61 (Vista) folder (same driver pack).

I was able to get the NIC driver in my Linux Managed PXE configuration, now I'm hung up on the SATA driver.  The disk drive can't be found as I can't find a compatible Linux driver for the Sandy Bridge chipset.
