  • 1.  Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library request the runtime terminate in unusual way

    Posted Aug 03, 2010 11:04 AM
When I am trying to create a console boot image, I get a message from Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library: Program: C:\program files\symantec\ghost\ghost boot wizard.exe this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. please contact the application support team for more information. This is a fresh install of 2.5, I have run live update and it is says I am current. We just purchased the product a week ago. I have it on a freshly set up Windows Server '03 box, with all of the windows updates. I have taken and cast images with the console and installed the client remotely, all without problems. I did do a windows update this morning. Any ideas?

You are accessing the machine which you are using with User credentials. You would require admin rights to use Ghost Console and Boot wizard. Please check this link

Do you have any additional .NET frameworks installed?
Are you using the same Admin account that was used to install the Ghost software?
There are MANY possible causes for the error you are seeing, so I would suggest you google on
"this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" and have a look at the possibilities.

I do have the additional .Net frameworks installed.  I was using the admin account that I had installed Ghost under, but for testing purposes created another admin account to try launching boot wizard, but on that account I get boot wizard crashes at startup with Allication Error of  "Fault Bucket 1657820988"

I did some google seaching about the ""this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" and found a closed thread with this same issue from two years ago that had not been solved.

Thanks for any and all help

I have tried removing all the .net add ons and that did not fix the problem.
I have tired uninstalling all of ghost, cleaning the registry out and that did not solve the problem.
I have checked my Mcafee settings to make sure executing from the temp folder was not a problem.

I am running shy on ideas.

    Anyone else?

If you are able to reinstall the server 2003 software to get a clean machine, I would recommend doing this first. Next - run windows update to get the O/S bang up to date. Make sure all hardware device drivers are at the latest level for your machine.
Then download and install all the Visual C++ runtimes - both 2005 and 2008 are at SP1 if I recall correctly, and 2010 is available in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions, so choose the right one for your server O/S. Use the original admin account throughout.

That will ensure that you are running the latest runtimes before you install GSS. Leave out the A/V at this point. If it still fails then at least you know there is most likely something amiss with GSS.
