  • 1.  "Error loading Operating System" unless I Image twice.

Hello all, I'm as confused as heck about this issue.  We use Ghost 11.5 to image our servers.  We PXE boot to a WinPE environment where Ghost 11.5 is called to drop an image on the RAID volume.  The RAID is fully supported and imaging works perfectly.  When I boot the same WinPE build off of a USB stick, I get odd behavior:

Case 1:  simply dump image over raid vol's contents.... all is well.
Case 2:  replace one HDD with blank one, dump image onto vol, (while array is resyncing) all is well.
Case 3:  de-establish raid volume, re-establish, dump image onto vol. PROBLEM.  I get "Error Loading Operating System" when I rebooot after successfully dumping the image.

The crazy thing is, if I dump the image onto the volume TWICE in case three, it boots fine after the second time.  It's almost as if one pass sets the partitions up and the second one sets up the boot record properly.  Does this make sense to anyone else?

The image was created with -Z2 -FDSP -CNS switches active.

I just had a very similar issue. I was using the WinPE bootdisk, taking an image from a raid 1 pair of disks and re-applying it to another  RAID 1 pair (same size). I recieved the error "Error loading Operating System" when I tried to boot. I tried to repair windows but that didn't fix the issue. I then found this post and tried to apply the Ghost image again. This time it booted no problem.

I'm glad you were able to get the image to work.  We still haven't been able to find the root of the problem.  We've attempted creating the image with various switches enacted but the result is the same.  My co-worker discovered that establishing the array, booting to PE, shutting down, and booting to PE again before imaging the drive left him with a booting system.  So, you can either image the system twice, or add a boot and shutdown before booting and imaging.

If this makes sense to anyone and you can explain it, please do.  I'm baffled.
