Basically here are the steps I've done to set all of this mess up..Please provide any and all feedback!

    I installed 3com PXE application.

Ran GBW TCP/IP standard settings --- DHCP,included imagex, supplied server's user account and password in client settings.

Saved GBW .WIM file in the C:\TFTP folder and named it ghostpxe

I opened up BOOTPTAB and added this:

    Name: ????????????

    Node:  ????????????

    Image:boot\pxeboot.n12

And started my PXE and TFTP Service from the Start->All Programs->3com etc etc

And it finally seemed like it worked, it took a long time to load up the -- what I guess it the .WIM file

and it gave me some cannot read BCD file. Any idea's?

I would also like to know how I would be able to make a PXE Menu ... Something like...

    *CompanyName* Ghost PXE Server

    *ImageFileName*

    *ImageFileName*

How would I edit the  Boot Image Editor to display that?

I have not done anything to the Boot Image Editor yet, and so I would need some direction.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    10/21/08 11:43 PM - Program started
    10/21/08 11:43 PM - Server started
    10/21/08 11:43 PM - Server stopped
    10/21/08 11:52 PM - Program started
    10/21/08 11:52 PM - Server started

From the above log, looks like you start service and application both. PXE comes with both service and application versions and you need to run only one of them. I would suggest to use the service versions.

Could you try simply closing the PXE and TFTP applications and restarting the PXE and TFTP services?

    Krish

I'm sorry if that log was a little misleading -- I posted the TFTP logs twice, my mistake.

To clear things up -- I am only startibng the service by Start ->All Programs->3com->3com TFTP/3com PXE

I am not going through Windows Services (Admin Tools ->Services->Start->3com PXE/3com TFTP).

So you say starting the Windows Service for 3com applications is better? I will do that when I get all of this figured out and working, thinks for the tip!

I believe the start and stops are from me configuring the server and stoping it - then starting it manually.

I do not know if I posted this or not, but I used the bare bones set-up process -- I believe one like yours.

I got to the PXE screen, picked up IP and started loading what I think is the Ghost .WIM file? But after a (what seemed like) long time it failed -- with some type of BCD corrupt message.

If you could also help guide me on how to set-up a custom PXE Menu that would be great...I guess I would have to edit the pxeboot.n12 image, since that is what I am pointing to???

Also, if I make multiple Ghost .WIM files through GBW will they automatically show up on the PXE menu without any additional modification?

    Thanks again!

Also, I've seen some very contraditing set-up guides from Symantec's own to what moderatos post here...

Do I need to copy bootmgr.exe to C:\TFTP from C:\TFTP\boot and have them in both places? I do not see the need, it kinda looks like it is looking for files and can't find them??? I will try and get screen shots and post them or make a vid of my settings and post it, if anyone cares to gander at them..

I appreciate all the response --- This is a very helpfl thread and I help I can get to a point to be as helpful!

Okay, I started up the GBW and made a new image to store in the C:\TFTP directory since I got some BCD corrupt error message last time (This was through Virtual Machine). Also, I figured the transfer of the PXE image through a virtual machine was significantly slower..So I tried just rebooting the machine and trying...It was a lot wuicker!

I also started the TFTP and PXEservice (3com) trhough Windows Services instead of the application.

I will now post the logs -- I see some aborts, maybe you all can look through it and see if anything is bad.

Why do you think I am getting these Aborts and Timeouts? And how can I fix them?

Also, does my PXE log look normal? I only booted one laptop once...

I had the same problem, I copied the Bootmgr.exe to the C:\TFTP and re-created the .WIM boot image from the Ghost Boot Wizard. All the information that you need is available here

    http://service1.symantec.com/support/on-technology.nsf/854fa02b4f5013678825731a007d06af/77debffee794592e8825744100706649?OpenDocument

Make sure that you include the NIC drivers for you PC in the Ghost Boot Wizard as otherwise it will load the winpe image but not connect to either the Ghost Console or Ghostcast Server.

    Hi Jace,

When you boot the client, does it download the WinPE image from PXE? This could take about 20 seconds to a minutes depending on the systems you use.

Though the virtual machines are slow, still they should work. It may be easy to work with virtual machines but takes longer time.

Could you delete the 'boot' folder from C:\TFTP and then try creating an boot image again from GBW? Do you run Ghost Boot Wizard from the PXE server or a different machine? If you are running it on a different machine, could you specify a local folder when creating the image and then copy 'boot' folder from that to your PXE server's C:\TFTP and try, just to eliminate any issues during create?
