  • 1.  How can I make a bare metal ghost image?

    Posted Apr 20, 2010 01:32 PM
    I have tried looking for a good guide on this and thought I found one that involved installing your applications to a desktop. Then using sysprep before taking the image. The image that resulted worked perfectly on other HP desktops of the same model but when I tried using it on a dell it just resulted in blue screen on booting. So I tried to do a repair installation of windows XP and it still wouldn't work. I need an image that is restorable on different hardware/manufacturer/model what is the best way to do this?

    Thank you!

    Hi Dave,

    This is beacuse of hardware changed from hp to dell, To Work this you need to run the DeployAnywhere(ghDplyAw32.exe) after restoring of image.

    To run ghDplyAw32.exe, Please refer the Ghost_imp_guide.pdf or GghDplyAw32.exe /? .

    To have an image which is hardware independent is only possible if that includes all hardware drivers, which is deficult;
    As Sachin mentioned above you can use Deploy Anywhere after restoring the image on any hardware

    Refere this link more about DA : https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/deploy-anywhere

    The image I am trying to make is for our disaster recovery site so I need to be able to burn it to a DVD and take it to the site to load up. It sounds like if I know the model I am restoring to I can add the drivers to our image before making the trip to the remote site. Where can I find information on adding additional drivers to an image?

    Dave,

    Here are the instructions you need to accomplish this:
    How to run Deploy Anywhere from the Ghost Boot CD

    I hope that helps!
