  • 1.  How to mount a USB drive after booting to ghost from CD?

I'm new to Ghost in general.  I've created a ghost boot cd using Symantec Ghost Solution Suite 2.0.  I'm wanting to write an image of the sata C: drive to a USB-connected external drive.  Can this be done?  What switches to creating the boot cd do I need to use and what edits to autoexec.bat (or commands to execute after boot) do I need to make to get that USB drive accessible?  I should add, the USB drive is 1TB.

    TIA

You have not indicated whether your Ghost boot CD is booting PCDOS or WinPE, although I suspect it is PCDOS as I believe that WinPE came in with GSS 2.5, and also because you refer to autoexec.bat

PCDOS has no native support for USB devices, so you ideally need to use WinPE for your boot environment if you wish to be able to access a USB hard disk using plug and play.

If you want to explore WinPE without first updating to GSS 2.5 then you should have a look at this article:

    Adventures with WinPE Symantec Connect

I have used the Ghost executable from Ghost 8.3 with this release of WinPE to backup to USB devices and so you should be able to use the later version in GSS 2 similarly.

My apologies, my Ghost CD is booting PCDOS.  I've gotten a little further.  I found a post that advised to disable "legacy USB" in the CMOS.  I did so.  The ghost CD was created using -forceusb and now when I boot from it I can see the connected USB drive.  I have ghosted an image to it but have not verified that image.

If you are able to open the image with ghost explorer ,to larger extent its a good image .Also run ghost32 and run an integrity check on image file

Run ghost32 on server from installation folder and select local-->check-->image and select the file and proceed with integrity check
