Single Span

    GSS 1.1

Im having issues getting Ghost to single-span images.

I assume I need to use Ghost32.exe rather than Ghost.exe due to DOS limitations.  Ive even tried using the -split=0 switch.

However no matter what I try, ghost automatically span's to another file as soon as it hits 2GB.

Im mapping to a remote directory, to which im uploading the image.

    Any ideas?

Is there a filesystem limitation on the mapped drive? If its a FAT16 Drive then that filesystem has a 2GB Max filesize limitation. FAT32 is 4GB.

The issue here is with mapped network drives/directories - in these cases, Ghost will always split at a maximum of 2GB. This is due to the DOS network driver limitations - i.e. they're unable to handle sizes greater than 2GB.

If you really want a single spanned image, you may need to use Ghost Explorer to combine the spans into a single image.

    To confirm, everything is NTFS

DOS isnt invloved.  Im using ghost32 through WinPE

I thought one of the "new" features in GSS 1.1 was single-spanning images over 2GB???

    Hi Tobster ,

Since you are using Ghost32 ,go to Options (Span/CRC tab)

    and remove Spanning option.

    Cheers.

I just briefly run in windows Ghost32 in GhostCast session (GSS 2.0.1) with command line on GhostCast Server (Ghost32.exe -split=0).Output result was a single span image.

I have to confirm this running GSS 1.1

Thanks Triple, ive been trying for the last 2days.  Nothing seems to make it span to a single file

Ok, actually running it in a Ghostcast session does span to a single file.

I've been trying it with a "Local > To Disk > Image", thats where I had the problem. (Just the way ive been used to using it in Ghost 7.5 previously)

So is that the limitation, only in a Ghostcast session?

Just another question, if the answer to the above is yes - how reliable is it to run multiple ghostcast sessions simultaneously?  We have multiple hardware and within that, multiple software configurations. So there may be times when we need to roll out 3or4 different images at the same time.

    Hi Tobster ,

Well I have to verify single spanning  by running Ghost32 -span=0 on the client. That should work (should).

Running multiple GhostCast sessions simultaneously is OK and of course depends on your network bandwith.

For each session you can "play" with bandwith and adjust it to acomodate all sessions (GhostCAst Server\Options and then check Limit data throughput and adjust it for every session).

    Cheers.

    Ok, still having problems.

Managed to create a single-span image file, approx 6.5GB.  Using Ghost Explorer I can see the files in the image, so it looks good.

Now the problem:  We I try using said image file to clone back to a workstation, I get "...Is not a valid image file" when selecting the image file through GhostCast.

Also. in the Ghost Console, the status shows "not a Ghost file" for said image file.

    Help!

    Hi Tobster ,

Can you run please Image file check from Local option from Ghost32.exe and include any possible error files?

    Thank you.

    Hi Tobster ,

Back to your original problem to create single span image using Ghost32 locally(GSS 1.1-Ghost 8.3) under WinPE-I was able to create single spanned image (4.5Gb) only by removing the Spanning option from check box and saving the change.

    Cheers
