SDLP: detection server preinstallation. WinPcup

Hello everybody,

There are steps required in Symantec Data Loss Prevetion installation guide. One of them is installing WinPcup 4.1.1.

One step is: Double-click on the pcapstart.reg file in the \11.6_Win\Third_Party\ directory to add WinPcap to the Windows registry.

Downloaded from FileConnect, I don't have mentioned file (pcapstart.reg) in the installation pack.

Could you please help to get one? Or, maybe, you know which kind of registry entries does it made? If the detection server installed without adding WinPcup to the registry using pcapstart.reg, how could this affect DLP system performance?

What version are you installing?  In looking at version 12.0 the file no longer exists.  The path to install WinPCAP is in the Symantec_DLP_12.0_Platform_Win zip file and when extracted it is in DLP\12.0\THird_Party\WinPCAP and is an installer for WinPcap_4_1_1.exe

It looks like the install guide for 12.0 has not been updated to reference it is not there.

The install will work w/ the WinPCAP that is included in the 3rd party files.

I'm installing 11.6. Could you please check in documentation regarding WinPcup if this .reg file mentioned there? I think that it was required in some prev versions and since then the reference to the .reg file has not been removed from documentation.

In documentation for 12 version the file is mentioned too. But without this file the DLP system works fine. Assuming that the file is not needed for installation.
