    Hi;

    Can you down load the IS database to a server then point the SWG at the URL on that server to fetch the database. Similar to the way you can do it with the BCWF?

    If not, how can a customer that does not allow a Proxy SG to initiate a connection to the internet, get access to the IS database.

    Kindly

    Wasfi

    Hi Wasfi,

                With IS service, there is no option to download the database for local hosting. Each device will connect to our cloud server to authenticate with their serial numbers and download the DB if they are entitled for it. With this mode, we won't be able to dowload the db on a different machine.

                If a customer is having restriction in proxy's connectiong to internet, they should opt for credentials based BCWF delivery which will still enable them to download and host locally. For this sepcfic access, they need to check with our Sales Engineer to see whether offline credentials are available or not. From what I can see, IS based delivery is the future.

    Hi Aravind,

    I'm interested in this topic since some customers can only utilize offline database updates.

    Since their support for the "legacy" BCWF will be deprecated at some point, where renewal via IS is the only option, would a customer requiring offline database updates to be maintained still purchase IS and request the offline credentialed method (or other offline method) at that time?

    Hi Rex,

                 I don't have a clear picture on the DB delivery method for future. If any customer/s prefer to use (for their own good reasons offcourse) offline DB than IS based delivery, they will have to get it during the order time as they are doing now. Since there is no official notification on "deprecation" of BWCF credential based delivery, we will have to wait and see. I hope there will still be options for the customer to have it served locally.

               Future: The offering is like a package where customer can choese from different types or mix of features. This approach seems to be due to the introduction of subscription (cloud) based licensing than offline. Features includes Cache pulse, BCWF, Web App protection...etc. All features that you need on the box other than the base license is fetched by the device itself from the cloud. This also makes it possible to control the usages of licenses only on the intended devices.
