  • 1.  SEP Custom Install Package Won't Install Locally on Win 7 32-bit

    Posted Nov 16, 2010 10:23 AM

    Hello,

Yesterday I created a SEP 11 install package using the following instructions

How to deploy the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client Release Update 5 or later with current virus definitions and intrusion prevention signatures.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH104779&locale=en_US

Now, I am at a Windows 7, 32-bit machines, logged on as Administrator. When I install the package as Administrator, the following happens

    1. Prompt says "Extracting" appears

    2. Error message appears, "This program might not have installed correctly"

    3. I click "Reinstall using recommended settings"

    4. Prompt says "Extracting" appears

Nothing else happens. No errors, no indications that the program installed.

    Help!

Can you please post the SEP_INST.log?

    From start - run - %temp%\SEP_INST.log

Search for Return Value 3 and post the 10 lines above the return value 3.

Have you checked the event logs to see if there is any MSI issues?

    From Win7 - Start>Search>Event Viewer>Windows Logs>Application

@ postechgeek: I checked the event logs for MSI issues are there are none

@ Cycletech: SEP_INST.log doesn't exist. However, in the %temp% directory there is another directory named sepinst. Perhaps there is a file within sepinst directory?

    Please help!

Can you run the SEP support tool? You can attach the file back here for analysis.

    Thanks,
