    Renewing and updating old thread:

I find that rtvscan.exe significantly slows my computer. Symantec's first recommendation was that the path to NavLogon.dll needs to be in the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify as a string value for DllName. As with some others, I found that this string already existed. Another contributor then noted that NavLogon.dll needed to be in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and suggested searching for it and copying it there if it were found elsewhere. Well, on my Lenovo/IBM computer, I did find a NavLogon.dll elsewhere (in C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\SCS\DATA1.CAB), but it's a more complex NavLogon.dll.93C43188_D2F5_461E_B42B_C3A2A318345C. Is this a corruption, or is this what I should copy to C:\WINDOWS\system32?

Can you tell us what Symantec Product and build version you are using?

I am using SEP 11.0.5002.333 (configured to Live Update automatically). And even for me too, very often rtvscan.exe takes a good high number of CPU cycles (as illustrated in the Task Manager)

A rtvscan handle leak issue was addressed in RU6. I recommend upgrading to the latest (RU6 MP3).

    Possible RTVScan handle leaks
    Fix ID: 1840917
Symptom: In some edge-cases, RTVScan can leave handles open.
Solution: Additional function calls added to ensure handles are cleaned up.

    Dear Thomas,

Does the routine LiveUpdate would update this engine and/or should we download it seperately and install? I just forced a LiveUpdate and it could only find Antivirus and Antispyware definitions but not anything on the runtime/engine.

Nope, you need to go to Fileconnect to get the latest version(s) of SEP.

You will need a valid serial number to get access to the software.

Thanks Thomas. I would get my helpdesk to get that out. As you had seen my other post in SEP Security, my module is on Windows Service and it frequently gets into troubled waters with either processor usage of RTVScan and Tamper Protection Alert.

I appreciate your timely assistance and fix on this issue.

I used the link, but it went to general tech support. I queried for "RU6", but nothing was found. Any suggestions?

Close and open the link again. Should open this time.

Have you checked out SEP 12.1? The scanning engine is much improved and faster with less resources being consumed.
