  • 1.  How to install Symantec Anti Virus client for UNIX/LINUX server?

    Posted Nov 06, 2012 10:41 AM

    Hi,

I am completely new to Symantec product.

I got a requirement to install Symantec Anti Virus client on UNIX/LINUX servers. Currently we have SEP manager managing many Windows servers. Now we would like to manage UNIX servers.

Do we require any Licensing to manage LINUX?

Where do we get SEP client binaries (installable package)?

What is the procedure to install on UNIX servers?

Can we map it to current SEP server?

Please help me on providing these information. Thanks in advance!

    Regards,

    Suresh

    Hi Suresh,

The AV product for *NIX is called SAV for Linux.  It can be found on your SEP DVD/downloaded from fileconnect the same as SEP components.

There is no need to anually install license on these SAv for Linux client machies: just ensure that your SEP seat count covers the total number of all Windows, Macs and Linux machines.

Here is an excellent, illustrated guide to installing SAV for Linux (SAVFL):

How to Install SAV for Linux (SAVFL) and Update It Using LUA 2.x (2.3.0.71)

The SAVFL client can forward logs to the SEPM for inclusion in alerts, notifications, reports, etc.   Chck out the "SAVFL Reporter" functionality referenced above!

Please do keep this thread up-to-date with your progress.  Thewre are a couple very good Linux admins here in the forums whose experiences can be of great benefit.

    With thanks and best regards

    Hi Suresh,

Just a check to see if the above information has answered your question.  (The thread is still marked "needs soluton.")

    All the best,
