Are you provided the correct server Name and port of the mail server?

At the time of mail configuration for also we are providing the option my server requires authentication. In SEPM there is no option to specify this.I think this the route cause of the problem.(i am not a mail server expert..:) this is my guessing)...

If running a firewall on your SEP server, make sure your firewall is not blocking traffic over port 465.

Port 465 should work for the mail server settings.
    From the SEPM server...

    Open a command prompt.

    Telnet smtp.gmail.com 465
If it is successful, than you have no issues.

If it FAILS, you will need to configure your firewall, either perimeter or SEP or Windows in order to allow access through port 465.

    It's that simple.
