Is WebRoot SecureAnywhere actually a virus?

I took over a pc at work that would have the message "your webroot subscription has expired, please buy it now".  then noticed i needed to install our Symantec AV product which went okay.  

After a reboot the PCs performance came to a screeching halt.   the Symantec scan would show the webroot program in the results section saying blocked memory or something.

 

I went to add/remove programs, uninstall webroot secureanywhere, and it opened a web page asking me to explain why Im uninstalling it??  is this not the pattern of all malware?

Hi Bradley_R,

FakeAV is everywhere, but an internet search does not turn up any obvious signs of FakeAV by that name.  There does seem to be a legit company called that.

It's never recommended to have more than one AV client on a computer at the same time.  There's a very high chance they will conflict when they both try to scan files at the same time, etc.

Please do keep this thread up-to-date with your findings!

It is a legit program. However, as Mick already mentioned, it's best practice to only have one AV product on a system so as not to cause conflict, which looks to be what is happening in your case.

However, as per your explaination, the WebRoot SecureAnywhere seems to be a Legitimate software.

Secondly, incase if you feel suspicious, you may like to run the Symantec Support Tool and submit these files.
