    We have two SEPM's a main and a backup running win 2008 and 12.1 RU5 (can not upgrade to RU6 at this time).

    Past month or so I've noticed the CPU on both servers staying at 100% due to xdelta3.exe. I've tried restarting the SEPM services but even when stopped the xdelta3.exe still runs and hogs the cpu. Is this a symantec SEPM service? Nothing has changed recently in the policy and we have multiple GUPs on the site to help with defintion distribution.

    Anyone know a way to reduce the CPU usage?

    Fairly certain it is, something related to building delta files. If you run process explorer you should see the path for it and should be in a Symantec directory.

    They pegged at 100% constantly? Run symhelp on it for error checking.

    When new defs are downloaded or during data purge Symantec manager process uses lot of CPU, you can limit the CPU usage by adding this line
    scm.delta.cpu.usage=0.5
    Decimal number between 0 and 1, where 1 represents 100% usage and 0.5 represents 50% usage.

    Hi,

    xdelta3.exe is process for delta creation.

    See this similar thread though it's old: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/xdelta3exe-process-hogs-server-cpu

    I would suggest to repair the SEPM. Also verify GUP's are functioning correctly.

    Looking into this as a possibility but still wondering why it's just started happening when the servers have been upgraded some time.
