  • 1.  Symantec System Center Console for SEPM

    Posted Jun 07, 2010 07:46 AM
    Hi Guys,

In SAV we are using (MMC) Symantec System Center console to see the Primary / Secondary servers. Like is there any option to see in SEPM.

Why because, I am having 1 central server and 5 sites avail. I am login in one server using web console i have to connect 1 by one. while switching to another server SEPM starts from begining as well download all the S/W(Java).

If we have option available in SEPM like SAV, it will more helpfull to admin all the servers.

in sepm there is no primary or secondary server architecture
your sepm console is a server and any client after that will be clients ; you make different groups and clients ( severs / desktops ) fall into that groups
    this is the reference guide

Please put this in the IDEA section of the Forums.

In SEP RU6 you have something called SPC. You can use that

    • Web-based Portal: RU6 will have a new future called Symantec Protection Center ( SPC).  The SPC console will allow  administrators the ability to manage multiple Symantec products through a Single Console. We can manage the following products from a single window.

    1. Symantec Endpoint Protection
    2. Symantec Web Gateway
    3. Symantec Data Loss Prevention
    4. Symantec Critical System Protection
    5. Symantec IT Analytics
    6. Symantec Brightmail Gateway

Are they actual SEPM sites, or locations, not defined as sites in SEPM?
If the "central server" is indeed connected to all locations, then you only need to connect to ONE single server, and you can "see" all locations.
Also - use the WEB based console now availble in the latest release. Get rid of that java  !@#$
The web console isn't perfect, but sure is better than having to put up with the processor and memory load of anything JAVA.
Depending on how you have the systems configured, connecting to one server may allow you to see and manage everything.
And actually, you can set servers up similar to "primary and secondary" since you can specify priorities, and even which server does the reporting, etc.
You can setup up SEP for load balancing or other needs.
Yes, I think I preferred in some ways the way SAV worked, but once one gets used to SEP and SEPM, there are advantages to it as well. I agree, some features that SAV had are sorely missed.
