  • 1.  Renaming/Moving A Workstation With SEP Installed

I am fairly new at a lot of this and have a question. At work we use SEP and we use the Symantec Management Console on the Symantec server to install onto all our workstations.

I have a workstation that is at our main office and SEP has already been downloaded onto the workstation and is running. I need to rename this workstation and remove it from the domain, so I can move it to another location on the same network and give it a new name.

My question is will I need to reinstall SEP or do anything to ensure that it works correctly after removing the pc from the domain, renaming it to something new and readding to the network?

Also, I am moving the workstation to replace a faulty one that already has SEP on it. I am having to name the workstation I am moving the same name of the one I am replacing. I am thinking I will have to delete the PC's name I am replacing out of SEP Management Console before being able to have the workstation I moved to its place with the same workstation name?

Renaming or deleting the client will not cause any issue. You can go ahead. Both of the methods you mentioned is right!!

So, just to make sure, it is ok for me to rename and move the pc with SEP downloaded and running and I do not have to uninstall or reinstall after putting the workstation back on the network?

    Yes!!

Machine A having SEP installed. Connected to domain D

    taken off from Domain D

    Rename Machine A

Put back to Domain D; Works without any issue.
