  • 1.  Symantec Antivirus 9.0 Corporate Edition Support

    I saw on the Symantec Security Response page that Symantec Antivirus 9.0 CE went end of life as of 3/31/09 and starting 4/1/09, the antivirus definition updates would no longer cover 9.0  However, today is 4/8/09 and the virus update files still say they cover 9.0.  Does anyone know if the support for 9.0 in the virus definition updates has been extended?  If so, until when?

    Oficially it is no longer supported:
     
    Symantec Antivirus 9.x will reach its End of Support Life as of March 31, 2009. Virus definition updates for version 9.x will be discontinued on April 1, 2009. Please contact your account manager or reseller for information about our current shipping versions

    How do you update today? Manually or Liveupdate?

    I cannot read anywhere that they have extended the life. It might be that it works anyway depending on how you get your updates.

    Is that with the "Conficker" hysteria, Symantec quietly extended coverage for a bit.  I'm sure it's only a short reprieve, since if it were a major change there would have certainly been an announcement or updated KB article.

    I would also expect it to run out any day now so you will probably be forced to renew your licenses.

    I talked with Support on this yesterday.  This notification is for Live Updating from Symantec's Live Update Servers. 

    If your 9x server or client is receiving definitions from a 10x parent or group partner,  it will still continue to receive updates as far as I understood.  If you were to try and update either from a Live Update server it would fail to update.

    Hi,

    You will get the definition and your product also work properly but in case some new virus come and this version not able to clean or detect. in this situation support people also not give give a support they only suggest you to upgrade your version to resolve this issue.
