this should be done from the symantec endpoint manager console.

open sepm click on policies; click on antivirus and antispyware policy, right click, edit, you can change it frm there

on the client interface; click on help and support

select troubleshooting from the drop down menu, what does it say ? unmanged or server offline?

if its servers offline then you have a managed package installed so the policies cannot be configured on your end...

You cannot enable that, it means You have a mangement sever set somewhere; may be you go this package from your college or from your IT office.

when you receive this package it will have set of rules configured and you wont be able to edit it.

if you want to delete this scan

    start

    run

    type regedit.exe

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\AV\LocalScans

Every alphaneumaric folder you see there is a scan setting.

You can check if there are any unwanted scans saved in registry and remove them if needed.

if the machine is 64 bits, it should be under

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\AV\LocalScans

Deleting it does not bring any effect because it restores afterwards.

If the client is communicating with the manager, it will also  be reset, thats why I said you have a mangaed client and it has to be done from the symantec endpoint proection manager. :)
