  • 1.  How to find out date/time of last successful update from outside SEP?

We use SEP 11, managed installation, Workstations Windows XP.
We have Microsoft's simple tool "bginfo" on every PC to display host name, IP address, username, disk free space etc. on every PC.
I want to add a line "last successful antivirus update : date / time". I know I can see this on the managent server, but the support guys would prefer to see it on the PCs.

Bginfo can display the content as well as the change date/time of files.
So is there a file which has always the same path and name, which is changed after a successful antivirus update from the server?

Or ist there a file which always contains the date and time of the last update? When I open SEP and enter the password, I can see the date of the last definitions. Is this information stored in a visible way?

The information is stored in the database .

If youn want this information you have query that from the database.

if you can check the application event viewer, you will get the information.

something like this "New virus definition file loaded. Version: 111202f."

or also you can check the SEP client system logs for the information.

    on the client navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs
if you open the definfo.dat file in a notepad

    Hello,

Yes, this is what I'm looking for. Not obvious for users, but our IT supporters see the info they want on the spot.

My suggestion to Symantec for a future version: show this date properly formatted after "Smantec endpoint protection" in the mouse over box of the icon. Or, if not possible, in the password entry box, which appears when I double click the icon.
A bit more information than the green dot would be helpful.

    Thank You
