  • 1.  Symantec Antivirus for Linux 1.0.7.14 Auto-protect unable to Enable

    Posted Jul 22, 2009 04:35 AM

    Hi!
I installed Symantec Antivirus for Linux 1.0.7.14 on a SLES 10 SP2 kernel Smp-2.6.16.60-0.21. It is a xen guest. I read on symatecs website that it is supported.

"Symantec AntiVirus for Linux supports -xen kernels of fully virtualized and paravirtualized guest operating systems. It does not need any specific configurations to install or load autoprotect modules"

It runs on 64-bit, in the readme file  it say "Additiontally, the following kernel versions are supported on x86-64"   "SuSE Linux Enterprise 10 smp 2.6.16.60-0.21-smp"

    Anybody knows what to do?
    The rest works.
    Scan and liveupdate works.

    Many thanks!

Please read this KB - http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security.nsf/docid/2009071309443548

    Notice this line under solution:

Please note that Auto-Protect is not meant for Linux platforms. You have to run a manual scan on linux platforms to detect threats on them.

But it say in the manual for Symantec Antivirus 1.0
Auto-Protect is available only on supported kernels.
    I have a supported kernel.
Whats with all the diffrent information? And before i bought it i tried it and it worked.

Another thing is that the liveupdate.conf file gets empty. Do you know anything about that?

    Many Thanks

In the readme file it sad that
"Symantec AntiVirus for Linux supports -xen kernels of fully virtualized and paravirtualized guest operating systems. It does not need any specific configurations to install or load autoprotect modules"

Now i see that when i try to load autoprotect my kernel is not supported.  I have the SuSE Linux Enterprise 10 smp 2.6.16.60-0.21-xen
And they say i have to do nothing if im using xen.

    UNSUPPORTED-OS-su-LE-10-2.6.16.60-0.21-xen-x86_64.
    How is that?
I bought a product and read the specifications but it doesn´t work in real life.
    Can i download su-LE-10-2.6.16.60-0.21-xen-x86_64.ko file?

    Hi Max68,

I found this on the SAV CE Implimentation guide, page 33.

    To enable Auto-Protect
◆ From the command line, type the following:
    sav autoprotect --enable
    To disable Auto-Protect
◆ From the command line, type the following:
    sav autoprotect --disable

    Have you tried this?
I will send you a copy of this doc to your email address.

    Hi!
    Yes i have done that.
But  now i know that i missunderstod their kernels that are supported. Is the SuSE Linux Enterprise 10 smp 2.6.16.60-0.21 and not the SuSE Linux Enterprise 10 smp 2.6.16.60-0.21-xen that i s supported.
I hope that support will come...
