How to Create a Bootable CD/DVD With the TCP/IP Network Ghost Client Boot Image and Connect to the Ghost Console

This procedure may be useful if you want to quickly restore quickly a Ghost image to a bare metal machine without having to install the Ghost Boot Partition or configure a PXE Server

In order to create a working boot CD/DVD, you will need to upgrade your version of Ghost Solution Suite to the latest 2.5 build, 11.5.0.2141 or later.

After applying the latest upgrade, open Ghost Boot Wizard, and note the version and build at the bottom to the left of the Copyright. It must be 11.5.0.2141 or later.

  1. Select Windows PE. Click next.
  2. Select Standard Ghost Boot Disk. Click next.
  3. Leave the defaults for Client type. Click next.
  4. Leave defaults for Network Client Configuration. Click next.
  5. Leave defaults for Network Client Address unless you need to set a static IP. Click next.
  6. Select either Create ISO Image or CD/DVD ROM.Give it a name and location if you select the former. Click next.
  7. Click next.
  8. Click Start editing delete the string "start ghost32.exe" and type "ngctw32.exe –console" on the same line (with no quotation marks), Click Stop editing .
  9. Click next once more to finish and create the ISO or to burn directly to the CD/DVD.
  10. Boot your client machine with the CD/DVD

    (If there is no record of the client computer in the Console Database, the client will appear in the Default Machine Group with its MAC address. If there is a record of the client already in the Console database, the client will be present in its previous location in the machine groups.)

To set up a Clone Task, follow the steps below:

  1. In the Symantec Ghost Console on the File menu, click New > Task.
  2. Name the Task.
  3. Check the box to select the Clone step.
  4. Browse to the "Target Machine Group" to select your target (which will appear with its MAC address).
  5. Click OK.
  6. Select the Clone tab.
  7. In the "Destination drive" box, type a drive number, if required.
  8. Under "Image", click Browse, then select the image that you want to restore.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click Save.
       • To add a configuration step to the task, go to the General tab and select Configuration. Please see How to create a Configuration task for instructions on creating configurations.
  11. Click Execute
