How to prevent Microsoft Sysprep from disabling the local administrator account on Windows 7 Screen Shot

www.symantec.com/docs/howto42361

1) Download and Install WAIK

You can download this utility from the Microsoft website here:  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=696DD665-9F76-4177-A811-39C26D3B3B34&displaylang=en)

2) Browse to the unattend.xml answer file you created. If you are prompted to browse to a Windows Image file, browse to the *.clg file located on the Windows 7 installation media.  The file is located in the "sources" folder of the Windows installation media.

3) Under the "Windows Image" section, expand "Components"  > "x86_Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup"

4) Right-click on "AutoLogon".  From the resulting menu, left-click on "Add Setting to Pass 7 oobeSystem"

5) Expand "x86_Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup_neutral" and Left-click on "AutoLogon"

6) In the AutoLogon Properties pane, click the Drop-down arrow for the "Enabled" field and set this to "true"

7) In the LogonCount field, enter the number of times that you should automatically log into the Administrator account.  Note:  The value for this field has to be 1 or greater.

8) In the Username field, enter "Administrator"

9)  In the "Answer File" pane, expand 7oobeSystem > x86_Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup_neutral > UserAccounts > Administrator Password, In the Value field, enter the local administrator password.

10) Click File > Save Answer File As... Browse to a location to store the new answer file and click Save.

11)  Open the Ghost Console, Expand Configuration Resources and Click Sysprep Configurations.

12) Right-click in the right-hand pane and selection the option for "New Sysprep Configuration", Provide a name for this new configuration.  For example, Windows 7 Professional x86, Click Browse, Select the appropriate version of Windows 7 Sysprep and click OK, Click Import, Browse to the modified answer file, select it, and click Open, Click OK.

For clarity, when you say:

"In the "Answer File" pane, expand 7oobeSystem > x86_Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup_neutral > UserAccounts > Administrator Password"

Is x86 correct or should it be adm64?

Could you show what the xml code looks like for the section where it enables the administrator account?  Not that I'm against WAIK, but it might be easier if I could just add it to an existing unattend.xml document via notepad.  Good article Harshu!

This solution could also be used with any imaging utility not just in Ghost.

I use this along with multiple logon counts in conjunction with a long list of (Departmental or Group Specific) software installation jobs within Altiris that require reboots for a completely seemless Image creation without having to even log back in to finish up jobs!
