How to View and Export Inventory Data in Ghost Console

Oct 29, 2008 04:23 PM

Below are instructions for viewing and exporting inventory in Ghost Console.

First run a Refresh Inventory task on the machines that will be used in the inventory analysis.

  • Click File > New > Task
  • Give the task a Name.
  • Under Task Steps, check the box marked Refresh Configuration.
  • Browse to the Machine Group/Machine that we want the refresh configuration run on.
  • Finally, Save and Execute the task.

Next, we will take a look at creating an Inventory Report.

  • Expand the Inventory file folder from the left-hand pane in the Console.
  • Click the Report file folder, and in the right-hand pane, right-click and select New Inventory Report.
  • Give this a discernible Report Name.
  • Under Report Parameters, click Browse and browse to your Machine Group/Machine that you want the inventory report for.
  • You can now sort by:
    • Filter (Used for sorting specific applications, hard drive capacity ranges, specific windows hotfixes, etc)
    • View (Used for sorting by all installed applications, specific hardware, disk partition, etc)

Once a name has been given to the report, the target has been established, and the method by which you are sorting the machines, then click Run Report. From here the report can be printed, or exported (to either a .txt or .csv [can be used in excel] file).

The format of the reports while nice to look at are hard to use and manipulate in spreadsheets.
