Struggling with Hardware Inventory 8.7.2

  • 1.  Struggling with Hardware Inventory 8.7.2

    Posted May 29, 2024 04:18 AM

    Hi,

there ist a new feature in ITMS 8.7.2 collecting the system SKU.

I'm having problems with this and Lenovo hardware (,only?). Before 8.7.2 reports show the model name, but after upgrade it shows the SKU.

    report

Even the view vHWComputerSystem shows the SKU instead of the model in field "model".

    sql

Might be a problem the the WMI class. Lenovo stores the clear model name in "version" field.

Now some of my filters and reports don't work anymore.

    Is this behavior correct?

    Thanks,

    JT.

The console view is also quite meaningless.

The console view shown earlier in this thread is accessed in the CMS console by navigating as follows:

Go to Manage > Computers. Select a computer in the middle pane (also called the list pane).

In the upper right-hand section of the console, details of that computer are now displayed.  By default it is the 'General' screen.  You can scroll to additional details by clicking the blue links in the upper right-hand corner (for example 'Agent Health', then 'Plug-in Versions', etc) until you get to Hardware.  Or you can click the dropdown menu 'General' and select 'Hardware' from that menu.  'Hardware' is the screen shown in the screenshot above.

Note: you can also double-click the computer name in the middle pane/list pane, which will open the Resource Manager window.  You can see hundreds of details about that computer by going through the various menus in that window, especially under View > Inventory.

    Hi Igor,

installed the point fix on Monday and checked the inventory.

It's looking good. Real names are coming in.

    Thanks, JT.

This is interesting as we are on 8.7.1 and we noticed this new feature which is great. We used to do a case statement which meant had to be updated now and then, then reports needed to be updated... was a pita..

but looking at this now, I see 2 that do not seem correct... thus i wonder if we have an issue.

    Hi Riggzie,

As IP said earlier, on this thread, there is a post-8.7.2 pointfix for Lenovo inventory issues.

    Details from the KB:
"Lenovo model name is incorrectly reported after upgrade to 8.7.2. Lenovo is known to put their model name in an improper wmi column. Added back previous workaround."

So you need to download the latest inventory pointfix (the current file is named 'Inventory_8_7_2_PF_v1_28Jun2024.zip' ) at KB 366939:  https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article?articleId=366939

Follow the instructions in the ReadMe file (contained in the zip) to install the pointfix on your Notification Server.  You'll start getting correct model info for your Lenovos after their next hardware inventory is collected.

    Warm regards,
    ---Sherri
