IT Management Suite (ITMS) 8.6 RU2, which became generally available on January 25, included functionality enabling customers to manage macOS devices using the Modern Device Management (MDM) protocols built into the operating system. These capabilities include the ability to:
- Self-enroll devices
- Create policies to distribute payloads configuring various properties
- Distribute and install applications
- Perform actions (e.g., shutdown, restart, lock, erase)
We plan to extend the MDM capabilities in ITMS to cover Windows 10 and 11 as part of the first release of ITMS in 2023. In preparation for that release, a technical preview of those capabilities was included in the ITMS 8.6 RU3 release that became generally available on August 10, The Windows MDM capabilities are hidden by default in ITMS 8.6 RU3, but can be enabled by changing a configuration setting in the console.
The purpose of the technical preview is to provide customers with an early look at the Windows MDM capabilities so that they can provide feedback prior to the time that the new features are released into production next year.
