  • 1.  Report displaying computers with certain software installed

    My first Altiris report and I need to display a list of systems displaying specific software. While familiar with doing this in SMS/SCCM I'm a little lost in Altiris and just need a push in the right direction. From the looks of things the previous admin used modified reports but it doesn't appear as though anything has been created from scratch. So for I'm trying to figure out where or how to select the options which may say:

    Only servers, W2K3 or W2K8

    Software Name

    Software Version

    etc...

    I'll then add the following fields:

    Computer Name

    IP Address

    OS name

    OS Service Pack

    Software Name

    Software Version

    etc..

    Hopefully this is clear enough to where once I get a reply I can take it from there. any responses appreciated.

    Which version are you using, 6 or 7?

    Altiris already has alot of reports for Software Inventory, and the one you want is most likely already there.

    If not clone the report that fits your requirements the best and modify it.

    Running version 7 and unless I'm missing something I don't see any reports containing software. For instance All Systems running Office 2003.

    All I need is All systems with "Software Name" installed. Has anyone created any step-by-step instructions on how to do this starting from creating the report?

    Take a look at the screenshot below, this are all the software reports that exist by default your report is in there.

    Thanks for the reply but the report I seek isn't listed because I need to create it. My challenge in using this tool is figuring out the steps to create a "new" report which will list any systems running specific software. In this case I need systems running Emulex software along with version, etc. In SCCM/SMS I'd create queries and build from there. My challenge here is simply not being familiar enough with the product. Once I get this particular process documented I'll be on my way.

    Were you able to locate any resources to help you with this?  I am also trying to get my brain wrapped around this.  With SCCM there was the "Creating Custom Reports By Using SQL Views" download that assisted with this to some extent.

    Hello,

    Perhaps, running the Targeted Software Inventory policy and viewing its results in the predefined Installed Software report helps you to solve this issue.

    Targeted software inventory lets you determine whether a specific software is installed on managed computers. The Installed Software report lists the computers on which the software is installed and the installation dates.

    I don't seem to have the default add/remove programs reports in my installation of SMS 7.1.  Is there any way I can download those?  I think they would come in handy as I am a novice at report building.

    If among the predefined Inventory reports you do not find the report that suites your needs, you can use the Resource Manager to view the inventory data for a single resource.

    The Resource Manager contains the Software Summary page that shows the section Add Remove Program.
    This section lists the programs that are in the Add Remove Programs of the Control Panel of the computer. It lists the name of the programs, their version number, the date they were installed, the manufacture type, estimated size, and so on.

    To view the software summary for a computer in the Resource Manager:

    1 In the Symantec Management Console, on the Manage menu, click Filters.
    2 On the left pane, click Computer Filters > All Computers.
    3 On the right pane, under Filter Membership, right-click a computer, and then click Resource Manager.
    4 On the Resource Manager page, click Summaries > Software Summary.
