  • 1.  SYMANTEC ENDPOINT PROTECTION ¿Is it good for the home user?

I bought less than 30 days ago the product Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 for my company. I would like to know if this product works also as a domestic user, I want to know how reliable it is for home use. Thanks a lot.

Symantec Endpoint Protection is designed for an Enterprise environment that is managed by a central server. You would really be better off with Norton Internet Security 2012 or our Norton 360 product for home use. Note that Norton Internet Security has added  web based management capability for easier administration of multiple systems.

Does that mean that if I install the product Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 in an UNMANAGED computer then, the product SEP 12.1 would have no efficacy at all or may not offer any protection to the computer?

Out of the box, it needs to be configured manually as it's settings are not set as high as they should be by default. It will provide basic protection.

Basically, SEP 12.1 should be kept in the enterprise and Norton is for home use.

I understand that the management console is for monitoring unified records, enterprise-level risks among different endpoints, and administration between them from a console however the motor, the efficiency and the detection of the product SEP should not be affected and instead it should offer the same protection to the end-user.

We're talking about 2 completely different products. 1 for home use (Norton), 1 for enterprise (SEP)

They both use the same technology so what you speak of should not be affected,

The biggest difference is SEP needs to be configured as its out of the box settings do not cut it. This is most likely so that when it is deployed in the enterprise, it will not break everything and allows the admins to monitor and make changes as necessary.

Bottom line is if you use SEP at home, make sure you go thru and adjust the settings as they may not be as strong. This isn't a defect but by design since SEP is meant for the enterprise.
