Ghost Solution Suite

Hello everyone.  I've got some new HP desktops in that I am trying to image using the Ghost Solution Suite (Ghost console version is 11.5.0.2113.

I need the NIC drivers for the Intel 82576LM-3, and the SATA AHCI driver for the Intel ICH10D/DO drive in order to gather an image.  The remote client install went fine, but I got the driver errors when attempting to gather an image.
So, I went out and got the drivers referencing articles in the Symantec knowledge base.  I then went into the Ghost Boot Wizard and attempted to add them to both the WinPE and WinPE 512.  I go into Edit then check the drivers that I added earlier to the list after it indexes them.  It then says it is uncompressing the WinPE image, then it says it is compressing it.  Then a small, square window pops up with no text except for a banner that reads:  "Ghost Boot Wiz . . ."  It gives me the option to click OK.  When I click OK it displays a larger Ghost Boot Wizard pop up that says:  An error occurred when trying to create the boot package.  It gives me the option to Retry or Cancel.   If I click Retry it returns me to the Windows PE Editor screen.

My gathers still fail with the driver errors so it doesn't appear to be updating the WinPE.  Can anyone help?  Thanks,
    Brad Terhune

    Brad,

You may need to update Ghost via LiveUpdate. From the GhostConsole, click Help > LiveUpdate. Run this three times. After that, try adding those drivers again. If the issue persists, however, you may need to uninstall/reinstall Ghost to restore the WIndows PE builds, then run the three updates and then add the drivers.

    Thank you,

    Randy

the symantec instructions say best practice is to first duplicate the included  winPE image and modify the new one so as not to jack up the original.  if you didnt do that you wil have to reinstall your standard tools to recreate the original PE images

I went ahead and reinstalled the Ghost Console and Standard Tools as Randall recommended.  Rebooted in between.

I then used Live Update and went through three updates.  The first 2 were pretty smooth- no problem.  The third one seemed to hang a bit.  It said it had completed in Live Update pretty quickly.  I then got a pop up saying it was upgraded to the new version.  I then got an error popup.  It said:  Windows Script Host:  a path down into my profile referencing "patch.wsf", Error:  Path Not Found, Code:  800A004C, Microsoft VBScript Runtime Error.

It had a taskbar that said it was creating the WinPE images the first time the console came up.  It went through with no errors and suggested I refresh the WinPE images.  I went into Ghost Boot Wizard and did that and got the same error at the same time (as before I mean).

Where are those images stored?  Maybe there is a permissions problem?  Thanks for any help you can give.

Those images are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Ghost\Template\common\{Windows PE build}\sources. Each Windows PE build will have a separate folder. Refreshing them would be going into the boot wizard, editing the build and re-saving it. As kurbycar32 recommended, definitely make a copy prior to editing.

    Thank you,

    Randy

I can get to the folders and see the images but I don't know what to do with them?  I've reinstalled the Ghost Console and Standard Tools as per my previous message.  What can I do to fix this now?

I had the same problem you are describing and this is what my problem was.

Blocked by Access Protection rule  C:\Program Files\Symantec\Ghost\Ghost Boot Wizard.exe C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp\gho95203\Windows\System32\csrss.exe Anti-virus Standard Protection:Prevent Windows Process spoofing Action blocked : Create

If I disable the access protection I am then able to make a bootable USB.

I am also having an issue with trying to refresh the WINpe files through the Boot wizzard.  I have applied all three updates still to no avail.  After installing one of the updates Ghost recommended that you refresh the PE files, I received the same error "An error occured when trying to create boot package", same error for both.  I was able to click retry and I can only assume it worked.

I created a PE copy and added the required drivers however I am still receiving the same error when I try to image .  Driver not available.  When I go to the Manifest file I do see the drivers I added.  Why wont this work?

Also, why can I not refresh these files with the boot wizzard?

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
